.........................................experiences from the Sierra Backcountry

January 4th, 5th and 6th 2007

Milking 1 Storm for 3 Days.....and counting

Joe and Friends

Finally a Real Powder Storm - Zippy on the fattest of his fat skis, standing sideways, without poles

Day #1 - The Face at the Heave on Thursday afternoon with Zippy and Kong

Aftermath of the storm over South shore from the Gunbarrel Chair:

Kong:

Zippy says there's mo' over dere.

He's right:

More Kong:

Zippy with hopes of entering the White Room:

Too greedy down low, he would pay for it:

Day #2 - Powderhouse Dawn Patrol on Friday morning with Jimbo

Jimbo switching over at the summit.  It was brutal cold at the top, especially with the NE winds cranking.

Sunrise was nice:

Skiing was Awesome (Jimbo):

My line.  Best of the year.....so far.

Day #3 - Powderhouse with Toby - 2 days after the storm, still skiing sweet pow:

Ski resorts were raped by East winds and desperate crowds.  There was nothing but love to be found in the trees.  Toby at the top:

Toby in the shop:

Later in the day Jodi, Roxie, Nora and I enjoyed the fine January weather while touring at Grass Lake.

Joad:

Roxie:

I skied Powderhouse a few more times over the next week, milking out whatever pow I could harvest from this last "great" storm.  It looks like it may be the last decent storm of January 2007.....and it happened on January 4th!
