.........................................experiences from the Sierra Backcountry |
December 12th and 14th, 2009 December Dumpage - Sierra and Red Lake Peak Joe, Kaptain, Toby, JTand Buddy A fine round of storms hit Tahoe during this 2nd week in December. Our economy needs it, our drought stricken land needs it and most desparately, my soul needs it. On Saturday, the Kaptain and I hit the sheltered trees of Sierra in the teeth of the storm. First we had to get out of Meyers:
Dynamite not quite ready:
But the Kaptain was ready:
Then on Monday the skies finally cleared and we embarked on the first dawn patrol of the year for Toby, JT and I on Red Lake Peak. The snow was soft and stable, the dawn light was golden, the morning was $$$. Headed to the top of the East Face:
Round Top nestled into some puffy clouds:
Let it Glow, Let it Glow. JT:
And they are off. It was 12 degrees down there in shady Hope Valley. It was sunny and splendid on the East face:
Our morning mission accomplished:
Gimpy finds a hella steep spine...that's right, in Tahoe this is a spine.
It's always nice to look back on your morning's hard work with a sense of pride.
And there's many more to come.
