December 20, 2008 A Sunny Day between Storms on Elephants Back Joe, Toby, Shawn, Chris G and split crew
BCRider slices up a smooth one below Elephants Back - 12/20/08 December 13th-ish brought a series of cold snowy storms to Tahoe, finally. But without a base, it was quite destructive to gear and body if you succumbed to desire and skied that fluffy stuff. Toby even went chest deep in the drink at Grass Lake while regrettably exploring Pow House. But the last storm was windy and packed it down a bit, yet kept it nice and soft in the sheltered spots. So we went back to the 2008 faithful locale, Elephants Back, where we found great consolidated soft snow under blue skies with long December shadows. And we were not alone, probably at least 30 others out there seeking the same. Hopefully the next round of storms gets the other playgrounds in the hood open for business so we can spread the love around.... Thought about Round Top and Crescent, but the wind looked to be rather unkind to those slopes:
After quite a walkabout, Shawn, Toby, Buddy and I hooked up with the splitter crew on the shoulder entry to Elephants Back. Thin on snow, but it was still soft and fun getting into the bowl. Here's Ray/Patroller420/Tex psyched on the coverage.
BCRider and I found a money shot below the main bowl:
It was windboard down low. Couldn't tell by his spray though...
Another lap in the EB Bowl. I skinned, these guys are booters.
Fun was had by all. Chris and Budrick.
Shawn gets it on after airing the rock band on the left:
Toby adds more graffiti to the already slain EB Bowl:
Another lap or two and then we headed out. We found our way up to the top of a little hidden diagonal chute above the Red Lake drainage. It served up great fresh pow all the way to the creek, and then old grade below. Toby finishes it right with frozen Red Lake below:
