April 22, 2007 Earth Day Powder on Pow House Joe, Abe, Paul and Roxie
The powder puppy approves. Saturday night's storm left 6"-8" of wet slop at lake level. But since it was Earth Day on Sunday I had to get all organic and spend the day outside savoring the spread. Powderhouse would be the obvious choice, where our kind hearted ma nature deposited a deeper and lighter blanket of white love on the rounded shoulders of our favorite local powder peak. As we skied through the white fluff I felt the kisses of the snow on my rosy cheeks from turn to turn. But she does, of course, still have some vixen in her as we found out when this lovely white blanket was prone to sliding off the bed (surface) when the bed was tilted steep enough. But we were mindful and never found ourselves caught in her angry temperamental slides. The skiing ended up being almost as good as huckleberry granola. It was Roxie's first trip to the top of Powderhouse. She loved it and did real well following me through the chest deep powder.....chest deep for her. It was cool to catch up with Abe (from Virginia Peak) and Paul on the skin track and join forces with them for the ski down as well. The bowl was good, but sketchy. We practiced safe terrain and route choices upon realization of the imminent danger. I don't recommend skiing the bowl unless you are very confident in the snow pack conditions and know the terrain very well. Here are a few of the pics I took of the guys and the goofy pup:

Thank you mother earth for letting us ski one more fine day on your round powder mound.....and survive it. Return to Backcountry Skiing Page
