Ride #2 The Hills of San FranciscoThe S.F. Climbs Go Giants! Our family and another family spent the weekend in SF to take our families across the Golden Gate Bridge on our bikes. We then biked to Tiburon and then took the Ferry back to Fisherman’s Wharf. It was a great day and a ride to remember. The fun started about 6:30 that morning, prior to the family ride. Myself, Mark (the other dad) and his 16-year-old son, Damon, snuck out of the hotel to test ourselves on the steeps of SF. We did a little research and tried to do the steepest hills that SF had to offer. Here are a few of the hills we climbed, with Lombard St. being the best. Going against traffic up that red brick is something every cyclist must attempt. The rest of the hills were basically just a hard push, and we had to get up on the pedals for most of them. The most challenging part, was going back down and stopping without going into the cross traffic. That is why early mornings on a weekend are key.
Steepest we could find: 1) Levenworth St. 30% grade 2) Filbert St and Lombard St. 28% grade 3) Taylor (the four steps of Taylor) 26% grade
