Super Stormin' Saturday at Sierra

Joe, Josh

The hype was right!  The big ol' monster storm of January 4th delivered copious snow to the Sierras.  In fact, it spilled over into Saturday and kept on dumping all day today too.  While friends and foe were being denied deep turns in the pow pow at Kirkwood (wind hold and usual shitty resort ops) and Heavenly (less snow, more crowds.....you know, it's Heavenly), Josh and I were sheltered in the trees of that other South Shore ski resort.  So Josh and I bounced off pillows, flowed through the fluff, received face shots and burned our quads up in a big way all day at Sierra at Tahoe in the storm.

We didn't take too many pictures, and the quality sucks, but here they are anyway:

Last night's dumpage:

Josh shooting the gap in Avy Bowl (terrible picture!):

East of East of Eastabout.  We saw a lot of crowns on this face and avy debris at the base.

I found a safe line through.  It was fun.

Then I started feeling childish on top of this rock.

Deep powder does funny things to a man....

More Merkow after a cottage cheese explosion (fortunately only small curd though):

I think the line to the right of this highway is getting primed up and ready to go.  Thankfully Josh was driving and remained focused on the road.

It's still dumping and the powder should be just as good tomorrow!
