Sonora Pass again - Leavitt, the Dead Man and the Devil on skins

The Deadman's Couloir - 5/12/07

After many unproductive hours spent reading his trip reports on the TGR site, I finally got to ski with the legendary skier 666!  This rendezvous to Sonora Pass for another assault on Leavitt Peak and an attempt at the Deadman Couloir was shaping up to be my last real ski day for the year.  It was also Zaq's longest day on skins and only my second full day with Chris for the year.  We found great corn on some spicy lines and wide open bowls.  With this crew, it was all about the pictures, laughs and stoke.  Most of these shots are mine, but several come from the cameras of others.  Enjoy.

Me:

Zaq, followed by Chris and Casey:

Deadman is the cool shot left of center.

Getting to the top of Leavitt:

My View:

A light hearted crew to say the least:

We summitted Leavitt and looked into the Y.  But we'd been there.  Done that.

We set our sites on this tight, crooked little Paris Hilton line that was muy bueno.

From below:

From above.  No, I did not huck into it from my perch.  I was just looking.

Ready, Set....

Go Joe Go!

Zippy, not choking in the choke:

"It's good to go guys!  The choke is plenty wide and very soft."

Steep.

But the moustache won't be denied:

Good work Zippy!

My view of Chris:

Then it opened up...

Looking back.  Y on the left, Paris Hilton on the right:

Good corn slopes for the slaying lie between Leavitt and the Deadman's:

Oooooppps.

A rest before our final objective.

Other worthy lines in the neighborhood:

Time to get on up.  Up the Deadman's cooly.  Chris.

Deadman's from the road after I'd hitched a ride back to the top to fetch the truck:

More road riding stoke from Sonora Pass for Paul:

How a good Spring day in the Sierra's should always end:

This is the End.  My only friend, the end.
